Peacock On the Flowering Tree

This painting is filled with the foliage of a tree: rounded leaf-clusters in three greens, bare twigs drawn like fine brown wire, and dense heads of orange berry standing out against a peach ground.

The peacock lies along a bough at the centre, its blue-turquoise body ruled with bluish white feathers , its crest small and precise, and its tail sweeping to the left as a long band of blue, green and coral scallops  as plumage. The eye is a single dark bead ringed in gold.

Behind the branches the ground shifts from cream to peach to a saffron-orange band, and along the right edge the painter has drawn the scalloped cloud border that closes a mural panel .

At the left the trunk climbs in bands of green and brown scale, with  small white flowers on the thin brown branches running up it, and small shrubs of green, yellow ochre and brown fill the bottom part of the painting. On the ground, rocks of different colours with white fallen flowers  on them are found.
